Looking for online shops that sell yarn on cone in the UK or EU?

1.5 – 2.7 kg cones of 100% Swedish wool yarn (8/2 and 6/2). Natural shades of grey, and dyed yarn in a variety of shades. Ullcentrum Öland also sell linen yarn on cone (Belgian flax spun in Italy).

Garnspecialisten

Garnspecialisten specialise in selling deadstock yarn from the textile industry. They stock natural and synthetic fibres: wool, cotton linen, acrylic etc. Cones are typically around 1 kg, but they also sell smaller 200 gram cones of merino wool.

Holst Garn

Holst Supersoft (merino wool/Shetland wool), Tides (wool/silk) and Coast (wool/cotton) are available on 500 gram cones (and 50 gram cakes). Affordable yarns that work well for standard gauge domestic knitting machines, and are great for hand knitting too.

Lankava

Lankava is a family-run company with an interesting selection of paper, jute and hemp yarns on cone, as well as linen and mercerized cotton. Most cones are 1 kg, but the cotton tube yarn and jute yarn are sold on jumbo 10 and 11 kg cones!
They also sell their own brand wool yarn on 1 kg cones: Lankava Unni (nm 2.8/2) made from 100% Norwegian wool (manufactured by Sandnes Garn).

Yeoman Yarns

Yeoman Yarns sell a wide variety of yarn on cones: wool, cotton, recycled fibres, lycra etc. Most of the yarns are suitable for standard gauge domestic knitting machines, but they also stock some finer yarns that work for fine gauge hand flat industrial machines (Dubied). Cones are typically around 250-500 grams.
I used to buy yarn regularly from Yeoman Yarns when I lived in the UK, and always found their customer service great.

Wide range of natural and synthetic yarns: cashmere, British wool, elastane (lycra), lurex etc. If you’re looking for sustainable yarns, Uppingham Yarns offer plenty of options: Tencel, biodegradable nylon, organic cotton, and more. Cone sizes are usually between 50 and 500 grams. They also sell knitting machine needles, transfer tools and sponge bars.

The Handweavers Studio is the place to go if you’re looking for somewhere to buy yarn in very small quantities (10-25 grams) for sampling and experimenting.
You can find almost everything here: glow-in-the-dark, reflective and metallic yarns, different types of cotton and wool yarns, plant fibres etc.
The physical store, near Finsbury Park in north London, is like a sweet shop for people who love yarn and textile fibres. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the UK!
